In the Beginning…
The JM Olson Corporation began in 1970 when chairman and founder John M. Olson
started the John M. Olson Company as a local builder. Initially working with
residential construction, the company’s commitment to excellence and “hands on”
management style quickly propelled it into the commercial construction arena.
In the mid 80’s the company began to branch into more significant commercial
work, and with strong leadership and strong client references the John M. Olson
Company secured a corporate headquarters in St. Clair Shores, Michigan and began
to blossom with the award of its first construction management project.
Moving forward into the next decade the company laid important foundations for
its future by adding clients such as Ford Motor Land Development, the University
of Michigan, and Erickson Retirement Communities. In 1997, the John M. Olson
Company was the first U.S. Construction Company to obtain ISO-9001 Q1 Certification.
Focusing on its ability to meet client needs the John M. Olson Company’s portfolio
began expanding ever quickly with notable project’s such as Henry Ford Retirement Village
and the Detroit Athletic Club. In 1998, the company changed its name to JM Olson Corporation
to reflect its continued growth and success within the construction industry.
The new millennium brought much success and reason for celebration, as the JM Olson
Corporation celebrated its 30th anniversary, and became the fifth largest Construction
Management/General Contracting Firm in Southeastern Michigan. Notable project awards
included the Ford Field Warehouse and the Detroit Lions Training Facility. It was in
this year that the corporation also became the first three time winner of Ford Motor
Company’s Gold World Excellence Award (1998, 1999, and 2000). This award is given to
top worldwide suppliers based upon rigorous standards for performance in Quality,
Cost and Delivery.
Today…
Today the JM Olson Corporation has grown from a company rooted in simple beginnings
to a nationally recognized supplier of construction services. Our talented team of
professionals possesses expertise in all facets of construction including architecture,
civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering, as well as providing not
only a full line of construction services but also services in pre-construction, estimating,
program management, and scheduling. The JM Olson Corporation’s portfolio has grown to
include some on the regions most notable destinations and is widely diverse in its nature.
