GSA Customs Cargo Facility

LEED Certified

Located at the United States border crossing known as the Ambassador Bridge, the GSA Customs Cargo Facility consists of a single level 28,000 SF building designed to house brokers for the bridge company. A 32,000 SF renovation was phased and coordinated to minimize disruption to owner operations. A 10,000 SF dock addition was added to extend the loading depth.

With its close proximity to the beautiful Detroit River, one of the nation’s busiest waterways, the project aimed to incorporate many green elements into their design. These various elements allowed the project to achieve certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

With its location on a national waterway, great efforts were focused on limiting the project impact on natural water sources. A cistern water tank was installed to collect rainwater that is then utilized to irrigate the landscaping and in non potable water areas. Coupled with a landscaping design that incorporates low maintenance and low water requirement prairie grass, these green elements create an environmentally friendly setting for the facility.
